FAQ

Who are you and why do you have a site?

Read the "About Me" page. Could it be any more obvious?

Okay, I read the “About Me” page. It explained nothing.

Right, my resume states that I am a freelance illustrator, but my friends (and enemies) know me as an artistic mercenary for hire. I am interested in doing illustrations for magazines, books, products, advertisements as well as production art including (but not limited to) storyboards, scene layout and concept art. I also enjoy doing magazine layout, logos, and apparel design. Furthermore, I am also looking for work in comics and graphic novels. But I will take anything that involves a steady paycheck.

What materials do you use?

I use watercolors, sometimes in brick form, sometimes in tube form. I work on cold press paper usually, rarely do I go bigger than 9x12. I also use pen and ink, either micron or other types of pen, or I go old fashioned and use a dip pen with various nibs and brushes. My paper of choice for ink work is Bristol, also no bigger than 9x12. Many of my doodles seen on this site are done on looseleaf paper using bic pens and were cut out and collaged into the layouts you see here. I recently also began doing more digital work, I usually will draw it on paper first, scan it and then color it in photoshop using my wacom tablet. For my photos, I use a digital Canon Rebel EOS with a variety of lens. Then I photoshop them into the ground with my awesome retouch skills.

Do you take commissions?

Does the earth orbit the sun? E-mail me if you would like to make me an offer I can not refuse.

Who are your favorite artists?

Some of my favorite fine artists are (in no particular order) Leonardo Da Vinci, Vincent Van Gogh, Claude Monet, Egon Schiele, Heinrich Kley, and Hank Virgona. My favorite illustrators are Bill Nelson, Steve Brodner, Frank Frazetta, Edward Gorey, and Joseph Ciardiello . My favorite comic artists are John Romita jr, David Mack, Dave Mckean, Will Eisner, Bill Sienkiewicz, Steve Bissette, Berke Breathed and Frank Cho. I have many more favorites and am always discovering new ones. The key to any good artist is to always keep looking at what other people are doing to keep yourself fresh.

I am a young artist who is trying to come up in the art world. Any advice?

If you want money, become an accountant. Otherwise, draw as much as you can from life. Be adventurous with your art and do things you do not normally do. No one has to see them but you so do it for yourself. It took me my entire college experience to understand that and by then I had graduated. Oh, and whore your name every chance you get.

What do you do in your spare time?

When I am not producing art, I am heckling museum and gallery goers, taking photos for fun and cooking food so yummy your brain would implode if you tasted it. I enjoy reading, modern classics and graphic novels. Being a big reader I am also a big writer so I spend a lot of time writing things that I typically never get around to finishing or doing something with. I also train in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and have an interest in mixed martial arts (in case you did not look at my Mixed Martial Arts section yet).

Do I look fat in this outfit?

Depends on the lighting.

Where do I buy your artwork?

You can get most of my art on TheUntappedsource.com, just search my name or check the links section. You can also contact me to see what I have in stock as far as prints go, as well as other goodies like postcards, sketchbooks, and autographed prints.

How do I contact you?

By using the contact page. Rather silly of me to put a whole section to that when I could have just wrote it here and saved the time. Oh well.
